John Alden Cutter $349,900

NELL GWYN was built by her original owner Frank Hickman and a team of shipwrights in Hobart Tasmania and adapted from a design by American John Alden, one of the premier yacht designers of the 1930s. The project took ten years to complete, with progress clearly affected by World War II.

Nell Gwyn was raced hard and often in all of the Southern Ocean races of her era by owner and skipper, Frank Hickman. He raced her in six Sydney-Hobarts starting in 1948, then 1953, 1955, 1967, 1968 and 1969 only retiring in 1948. Nell Gwyn’s last Sydney-Hobart was the 50th Anniversary race in 1994 owned and skippered by J Carney of Brisbane.

Post 1994 she was purchased and reconfigured as a cruising yacht by S Mata Luque of Mooloolaba and cruised the waters of North Queensland. In 2012 she was purchased by her current owners and taken to Portland, Victoria. In January 2014 she was taken from the water to BR & SM Webber Shipwrights in Williamstown for a very major refit. Nell Gwyn was stripped back bare to her Huon Pine hull and deck. Anything found to be tired, worn or dodgy has been refurbished, repaired or replaced.

Nell Gwyn is currently moored at Portland Bay Marina in Portland Victoria. If you would like to make arrangements to view her please contact Sundance Marine 1300 55 00 89.
