Wauquiez Yachts ‘Optio’ on the water!

The first Wauquiez Yachts ‘Optio’ arrived in Australia in 2014, just in time for Geelong Festival of Sails and the Melbourne Boat Show.

The Wauquiez Yachts ‘Optio’ was launched in late January as Peli-Can and made her maiden voyage in the Geelong Festival of Sails Passage Race January 2014.

Wauquiez Yachts Optio

After a successful trip to Geelong, the Wauquiez Yachts Optio competed in the Cruiser Racer Division of the regatta, skippered by Andrew Steenhuis. The dynamic day sailer, the first for in the brands history, performed well on the water.

Designed for high performance the standard model is fitted with racing equipment. At Geelong the crew described her as efficient and easy to sail.

After her time at Geelong she returned to Sandringham before heading to her more permanent home at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron. Her new owner sailed her home with David Beck from Sundance Marine on a perfect day. David commented ‘she handled the trip to Blairgowrie wonderfully and showed off her credentials for day sailing in Port Phillip Bay’.

Since arriving at Blairgowrie ‘Peli-Can’ has been enjoying the waters off Blairgowrie and the wonderful mild Autumn weather has increased the opportunities to get out on the water with her.

The Wauquiez Yachts Optio is shipped from France inside a container allowing for fairly quick turn around. The commissioning then completed upon arrival.
